Heel Spur Treatment

Effective Heel Spur Treatment From Our Expert Podiatrists.

Whether you’re a walker, a runner or just trying to get from A to B, any foot pain can make life difficult. There are a number of contributing factors which can cause discomfort and pain in the foot. Foot pain can be caused by genetically inherited conditions such as a mechanical imbalance in the foot, or developed from an injury or inappropriate foot wear.

All of our Podiatrists are fully qualified with extensive clinical experience in the treatment of foot pain. On your first visit, we will set out a plan to quickly relieve your pain and discomfort. Our Podiatrists will not just treat the pain in your foot, but will also help you understand the cause of your pain and how to manage or prevent future re-occurrence.

Common Heel Spur Symptoms

Common symptoms of a heel spur include:

  1. Heel Pain: Sharp or aching pain, especially when taking the first steps in the morning or after prolonged sitting.
  2. Tenderness: Sensitivity or soreness in the heel, particularly at the front or bottom.
  3. Swelling: Mild swelling around the heel area.
  4. Stiffness: Reduced flexibility or stiffness in the heel, especially after resting.
  5. Discomfort with Activity: Increased pain during physical activities, particularly those involving running or jumping.

Our podiatrist may suggest custom orthotics or off the shelf insoles for your shoes to help correct the underlying problem that is causing the inflammation. They may employ taping and strapping to reduce strain and give support to the area. Mobilisation is another form of treatment often employed by our Podiatrists where they gently move the joints manually to remove stiffness and restore the normal range of movement. If all of this fails, surgery may be a last resort but in the majority of cases working with a Podiatrist will fix the problem.

A heel spur diagnosis is made when an X-ray shows a hook of bone protruding from the bottom of the foot at the point where the plantar fascia is attached to the heel bone. Once the Podiatrist has made an accurate diagnosis of the cause of pain and inflammation they will decide on the most appropriate form of treatment for your case in particular.

Often it is important to allow adequate rest to take the strain off the heel and allow the affected tissues time to heal. You can use an ice pack on your heel several times a day for twenty minutes at a time to reduce inflammation. Do not place the ice directly onto the skin, use at thin towel between your heel and the ice pack.

I attended this week with a minor foot ailment. The service is excellent and good value. The podiatrist is very professional and the treatment was successful and painless.

This is a brilliant place to go to if you are anyway nervous or anxious because they make you feel very comfortable before starting and are very chatty and polite. I got treated by a lady called Aoife who was so lovely and kind. I would highly recommend her and the clinic A+++

Using Spectrum Foot Clinics was the best move I ever made regarding having my husbands feet being seen to, he's had diabetes for about nine years and found it difficult to find a suitable chiropodist (as was suggested by his diabetic nurse). I found your Clinic by searching on Google.I phoned in the morning, and made an appointment for that same afternoon, which pleasantly surprised me. The attention and professionalism we received by the podiatrist Saoirse Waldron, was warm, welcoming and reassuring. To anyone who suffers with foot problems, I would highly recommend a visit to your Clinic. I had my own feet seen to on the same day and what a difference it made!!!

Great place. I turned up on time for my appointment and was seen straight away. If only more places were like this. Chiropodist did the examination and assured me nothing much was wrong, this is what I wanted to hear. Very reassured and happy with the service.
