Please note that food intolerance tests on the market are not a reliable diagnostic test. It is a good idea to check in with your GP for medical tests to determine if there is a medical cause for your symptoms. This may be a simple blood test or further investigation may be needed. We recommend that you rule out food allergies before visitng us.
Booking an appointment with a Dietitian will be your next step. A Dietitian can help you to optimise your diet and lifestyle to help you to overcome symptoms for good.
When someone has a food allergy, their immune system wrongly sees the food as hostile and the body’s defence mechanism springs into action. This produces a range of symptoms which can vary from mild itching to severe breathing difficulties or even shock. These symptoms usually happen immediately after eating the food.
When someone is intolerant to a food, the immune system is usually not involved and symptoms take much longer to develop and are generally not life-threatening. However, a food intolerance can adversely affect long-term health.
During your initial consultation, your Dietitian will carry out a full body analysis including weight, BMI and body fat measurements. We can help you to identify if you have a food allergy or intolerance. You may be advised to get diagnostic blood tests if a food allergy is suspected. An elimination diet can be tailored for you to identify food intolerances.
Food Elimination Programme
Depending on your symptoms, an elimination diet may be the best and most effective treatment option for you. This will involve following a special diet for a set period of time to relieve symptoms of food intolerances. You will then commence a phase of food reintroduction where food groups will be tested to determine which foods trigger your symptoms. The elimination diet has been scientifically proven to be extremely effective as a treatment option for food intolerances.
